The Ribeiro is a magical region, with a lush landscape and fascinating places of interest. In this article we propose some of our favorite walks and activities.
A walk through Ribadavia
Ribadavia is a town steeped in history, as it has been the capital of the ancient kingdom of Galicia and has enjoyed great prosperity in the Middle Ages thanks to the Ribeiro trade. There is not much left of the Castillo de los Sarmiento, but its audio guides will transport you to its most splendid moments. It also preserves several anthropomorphic stone tombs. Around the Plaza de la Magdalena, is its Jewish quarter, which was one of the largest and most prosperous in Spain and is in very good condition. You can also visit the ethnological museum and various churches and convents.
On the last Saturday in August, the “da historia” festival is celebrated, of national tourist interest, which recreates the Jewish atmosphere. You will even have to use the maravedí as currency.
To begin, we advise you to go to the Ribadavia Tourist Office, in the Plaza Mayor.
A visit to the Castro de San Cibrao de Las
Near the Ribeiro, is the Archaeological Park of the Castrexa de San Cibrao de Las Culture. You can visit the Castro, also known as “A Cidade” or Lansbricae, and the museum that houses a permanent exhibition that will allow you to get to know this culture from the Iron Age.
El Castro is one of the most important and largest archaeological sites in Galicia. It was a fortified town that was inhabited between the 2nd centuries BC. and II AD, a stage where the Castro culture was already declining, so signs of Romanization can be seen on the acropolis.
A tasting at the Priory of Razamonde
Of course, we can only recommend a visit to our winery, El Priorato de Razamonde, a beautiful restored vineyard, located in a privileged environment, steeped in history and in which nature is present at all times. This farm is designed to enjoy the countryside, taste the traditional foods and wines of Galicia and share pleasant moments.
The visit begins with a walk through our vineyards and winery and ends with a tasting of our Ribeiro wines.
A balneotherapy session in Laias
After a day of visits and walks, what better way to enjoy a balneotherapy session at the Laias thermal facilities? As documented, the King of León Bermudo II already did it, who in the year 999 went to these lands with Prince Alfonso to relieve himself of the gout he suffered.
We recommend you arrive in the afternoon to enjoy the landscape and its thermal waters, with therapeutic characteristics, recommended for dermatological diseases, the digestive system, and rheumatism problems. If you feel like it, you can also do a health, relaxation or beauty treatment and spend the night at the hotel.
We hope to see you soon in our lands!
