The Brancellao grape is a variety of vine of Galician origin, old and cultivated for different denominations of origin. Being so widespread in Galicia, it receives many names, such as Albarello or variations of Brancellán. It is of good quality and resistant to diseases, however it is of low productivity, so its cultivation is not so widespread and it could disappear.
Its clusters are medium or large and not very compact and its berries are small and elliptical in shape. Its pulp without pigmentation translates into wines of medium structure and little color. But due to their good maturation skills, musts made with brancellao have a high sugar content and medium acidity. The wines are aromatic, full-bodied and with little structure.
At Viña da Cal, we combine this variety with sousón, another of the Galician autochthonous varieties, booming in Ribeiro. With its great polyphenolic potential, giving a lot of pigmentation, it binds perfectly to brancellao, which provides aromatic complexity.
